Compensation for live music – how to get paid by Stim

Has your music been performed live? Then you can receive Stim payments, no matter if it's a large or small concert, a festival or a club gig. Here we explain how compensation for live music works and what you can do to speed up the process.

To receive Stim payments for a live performance you need to know what affects the compensation. The faster you complete your tasks, the faster you get paid.

When will the money for the concert arrive?

You are usually paid within 6–9 months after the concert. Here is an example of how the flow can look, from the time of the concert to the payout from Stim.

  1. The live performance takes place on February 1st.
  2. You submit the setlist to us on February 2nd.
  3. The organizer in the example reports to Stim quarterly and pays for your concert in May.
  4. Stim links your registered musical works with your submitted setlist. The organizer's sum is linked to the performance and distributed among the songs.
  5. You are paid by Stim in September. If a delay occurs in any part, you will receive your compensation at a later date.

Three things are required to receive compensation from Stim for live music

  • Registration of musical works with Stim

All songs that are performed publicly must be registered with Stim via My Pages. This should be done well in advance of the performance.

  • A submitted setlist

Usually the artist or band submits the setlist to Stim, which is done via My Pages. The sooner you submit the setlist, the better.

  • Payment from the concert organizer

The organizer pays Stim for the concert, which happens in different ways depending on the business. They may, for example, report quarterly or semi-annually. Stim only pays out the live payments once we have received the organizer's payment.

Our live payments are made quarterly. When the above parts are in place, Stim makes the payout to your account, or to your music publisher if your works of music are published. You receive the compensation in the upcoming quarterly payment.

Good to know about concert compensation and reporting

  • Stim payments are split among all bands or artists who performed at the concert.
  • The compensation is distributed according to the percentage shares indicated on the musical works.
  • Report all musical works that you performed at the concert, both your own and any covers.
