AI, new technology and global platforms are fundamentally changing the music industry. In this interview, Stim's Chair of the Board Carina Brorman and CEO Fredrik Tumegård reflect on a year marked by transformation, technological shifts and royalty revenues – as well as on why copyright and the value of music are more important than ever.

Stim's core mission is to ensure that music creators get paid when their music is used. 78,134 members received a payout during 2025.

Stim's music promotion
Music promotion is a core part of Stim's mission and is about creating long-term conditions for a vibrant, diverse and sustainable Swedish music scene. In 2025 Stim's scholarship celebrated its 100th anniversary and was awarded to 144 recipients, where over 1,500 received support under the Musical Diversity Program. Also, investments were made in education, international collaborations and new meeting places for music creators.

Stim and AI
The development of AI is happening at breakneck speed, and we closely monitor its progress. We are prepared to think anew and rethink in order to constantly stay at the forefront – always with our members' best interests at heart. In 2025 Stim launched, as the first society in the world, an AI license that makes it possible to use copyrighted music and simultaneously compensate music creators.

This year's cost deduction
Stim does not charge more than it costs to drive operations. In 2025 the cost corresponded to 10.6% of the revenue. At the same time we receive returns on the capital we manage, which reduces the cost deduction over time – in 2025 it was 7.5%.
