Required Soundmouse metadata and the territories they cover
As a STIM member, you can sign up for Soundmouse for free. By uploading your music to Soundmouse, you help them track your songs on YouTube. This means STIM can make sure you get paid correctly for every time your music is used.

What territories does Soundmouse cover?
Soundmouse covers a wide range of countries including those in Europe, the UK, the USA, Australia, South Korea, and Japan.
They provide music tracking reports for many of the world's biggest media companies and music rights organizations.
Some organizations rely heavily on Soundmouse:
- PRS (UK) - Use Soundmouse to report on music used in TV and Radio adverts in the UK , reports on performances across 125 UK radio stations & international TV & radio stations in territories such as the Bahamas & Cyprus.
- ICE (digital) Use Soundmouse to report on music performed on YouTube, specifically their General Entertainment files that sit outside of the YouTube Content ID system. These reports are then shared with STIM.
- ASCAP (USA) – Use Soundmouse to identify music used in radio commercials, public service announcements, short form infomercials, movie trailers (not monitored by Numerator), TV commercials (not monitored by Numerator) and promos not on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, Univision, HBO, Cinemax or Showtime.
- GEMA (Germany) – uses Soundmouse to identify music used on TV commercials for selected channels.
- IMRO (Ireland) – uses Soundmouse to identify radio commercials for selected channels.
- APRA/AMCOS (Australia & New Zealand) – uses Soundmouse to identify music used on all TV & Radio commercials.
What do I need to provide?
When you have received your account invite and logged in, you will need to upload your audio files. Each recording you upload, should relate to a work registration. You can have multiple recordings or edits that relate to the one registration e.g. a jingle package with multiple versions of the same track.
Which data is needed for each track?
Required metadata:
- Audio file name incl. file extension (unique identifier) in as high a quality as possible (see below)
- Track title (should be the same as when you registered the track)
- Composer and publisher name(s) including society affiliation
- Publisher name (If you have no publisher you can write Self-Published in this field)
- Label name (if a commercial recording, then indicate record label here. If not, then insert name of data supplier)
- Audio format: MP3 320kbps is suitable, but you can upload higher resolution files (WAV or AIF) if you like
Optional but recommended metadata:
- Library label name (This acts like a master folder, housing all your tracks under one name, this is not required for Commissioned Composers but for production libraries / commercial music suppliers this can be the name of the company/catalogue)
- ISWC (Highly recommended)
- STIM Work ID (Highly recommended)
- Composer / Publisher CAE/IPI Number
- Composer / Publisher Society Name
