Inheriting Stim royalties

When a music creator affiliated with Stim passes away, the beneficiaries are entitled to compensation for 70 years after the year of death. Here you can read more about the rules on inheritance and Stim payments.

A songwriter, composer or lyricist is entitled to compensation when their music is performed in public. If a rightsholder is a member of Stim, the compensation is paid by us as so-called Stim payments. Copyright law grants the right to compensation for 70 years from the year the rights holder passed away.

The beneficiaries are stated in the estate inventory

When a rightsholder passes away, we need documentation of who will inherit them in order to pay Stim royalties to the correct individuals. The compensation is paid to the beneficiaries listed in the estate inventory which you receive from the Swedish Tax Agency.

What you need to do as a beneficiary or inheritor

If you are a beneficiary to a deceased rightsholder who was affiliated with Stim, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you have a copy of the estate inventory that you receive from the Swedish Tax Agency.
  2. Send the copy to Stim's address above, along with our inheritance distribution form.
  3. If there is a will or any other specific documentation concerning Stim payments, we need a copy of it.
  4. Await confirmation from Stim that we have registered the information.
