Music in restaurants and food service

Get access to music from around the world in just a few clicks. With a Stim music licence, you can create a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere in your restaurant, café or food business.

Do you play music in your business? Research shows that thoughtfully chosen music can increase sales and strengthen your brand. To use music legally in a business setting, you need a licence. Stim ensures that the money goes to the people who created the music.

Choose the right licence package for your business

In our shop you’ll find licence packages tailored to different needs. We offer three packages: Mini, Basic and Premium. Premium is our most comprehensive package and covers everything you may need.

If needed, we can tailor the packages to your business. That way you only pay for what is relevant, while knowing you have the right licences in place.

Suitable for businesses such as:

  • Restaurants
  • Cafés
  • Bars
  • Catering businesses

Where does the money go?

The licence fee you pay is distributed to songwriters, composers and music publishers in accordance with copyright law. Stim is owned by rightsholders and operates as a member-owned economic association with no profit motive.

Together with you as a customer, we help create better conditions for creativity and renewal in Sweden’s music scene. Today, Stim represents nearly 100,000 affiliated music creators and publishers.

How is the cost calculated?

The fee for restaurants and food service is based on the number of seats and the number of days you are open.

Example
Saman runs a restaurant with 50 seats and is open 300 days a year. He plays background music and pays a licence for that use.

  • Saman also runs music quizzes every Wednesday throughout the year. This requires an additional licence. To calculate the fee, he estimates how many quiz events take place and the average number of guests attending.
  • One summer, Saman wants to organise live performances once a week. He then adds a licence that covers live music. That fee is based on the number of attendees and whether an entrance fee is charged.
